A triple offset butterfly valve (TOBV) has three geometric offsets: (1) the shaft is offset from the disc centre line, (2) the shaft is offset from the pipe centre line, and (3) the seating surface has a conical profile. These three offsets create a cam-action closure where the metal seat and seal make contact only at the final degree of closure, producing zero-leakage Class VI shutoff with no seat rubbing or wear during opening/closing.
In many applications, yes. Triple offset butterfly valves provide equivalent or better shutoff performance (Class VI vs Class IV for gate valves) at a fraction of the weight, cost, and face-to-face dimension. They are increasingly specified as alternatives to gate valves in refinery, power plant, and offshore applications, particularly in larger sizes where the savings are most significant.
Resilient seats: EPDM, NBR, FKM (Viton), PTFE, and natural rubber for temperatures up to +200°C. Metal seats: Stellite overlay, Inconel 625, tungsten carbide, or chrome carbide for temperatures up to +600°C and for fire-safe applications. Triple offset valves use laminated metal-graphite seals for bubble-tight shutoff.
Yes. All butterfly valves can be supplied with pneumatic, electric, hydraulic, or manual gear actuators. We size actuators to the valve torque requirements including safety factors for breakaway torque, dynamic torque, and end-of-stroke seating torque. Fail-safe (spring-return) actuators are available for safety applications.
Wafer body valves are clamped between two pipe flanges using long through-bolts, they cannot be used as a line end valve. Lug body valves have threaded inserts (lugs) allowing them to be bolted to one flange, enabling dead-end service and allowing one side to be disconnected for maintenance without draining the other side.
